The World Is Waiting
On May 19, 2006, tragedy struck. During a mountain bike ride with a friend, my front tire burst while leaning aggressively into a right hand bend. The loss of control sent me head first to the ground, shattering my 4th cervical vertebrae and permanently injuring my spinal cord. The injury left me completely paralyzed from the neck down. In a split second, I lost my physical independence, dreams shattered and life turned upside down.
Being physically active has always been my outlet, how I expressed myself, my identity and how I dealt with depression. How will I move forward from a tragedy like this?
